A Large-Scale Log Cabin Build in Guernsey
Some projects stand out for their size. Others for their speed.
And then there are the ones that stand out for everything it takes to bring them to life.
This recent Keops log cabin build in Guernsey is one of those.
From Mainland to Island: When Logistics Tell a Story
Delivering log cabins to Guernsey isn’t unusual for us, but this project was on a completely different scale.
Typically, island builds don’t require full transport loads. But for this one, we sent three full artic lorries, all carefully loaded and transported by ferry to reach the site.
And the journey didn’t stop there. Due to the size of the delivery, each lorry was escorted to site by bike escort, a rare sight, and a clear indication that this was no ordinary cabin build.
From the very beginning, this project was built differently.
Built in Just 6 Days
Despite the scale and complexity, the on-site build was completed in an incredibly efficient timeframe:
Start date: 10th FebruaryCompletion: 16th February
That’s just 6 days on site to assemble a large, fully compliant structure.
It’s a great example of how modern timber construction and log cabin systems can dramatically reduce build time, without compromising on quality or performance.
Designed for Purpose: Assisted Living Accommodation
This project has been designed as assisted living accommodation, created to offer a balance of independence, comfort and shared space.
Each unit includes:
A kitchen and dining area
A dedicated living space
Three bedrooms
Three shower rooms
A covered porch area
Every element has been carefully considered to ensure the space is practical, welcoming and easy to live in, not just now, but long-term.
This isn’t just a cabin, it’s a fully compliant living structure.
Constructed to meet building regulation U-values, the build includes:
High-performance insulation in the roof, floor and walls
Designed for year-round comfort and energy efficiency
Finished with:
PVC sliding sash windows (anthracite grey inside and out)
Aluminium folding doors with 28mm toughened double glazing
A 1500mm canopy with decked area and horizontal log balustrade
Heavy-duty laminated shingles in slate grey (with a 30-year expected lifespan)
The result is a space that delivers on both performance and aesthetics, built to last, and built to be lived in.
A Flexible, Phased Approach
At this stage, the structural build is complete.
The client will now:
Complete plumbing and internal services
Install flooring
We’ll then return to carry out the internal wall lining, ensuring the final finish meets the same high standard as the structure itself.
This phased approach allows the project to move forward efficiently, while giving flexibility where it’s needed.
More Than a Cabin
Each unit, delivered and installed, comes in at approximately £120k, representing a fully functional, regulation-compliant living space delivered in a fraction of the time of traditional construction.
But what this project really shows is something bigger.
Log cabins today are made for more than you might first think.
They’re not just garden rooms or occasional-use spaces, they can be:
Full-time living accommodation
Commercial spaces
Specialist environments designed for specific needs
At Keops, that’s exactly what we mean when we say made for more.
More flexibility. More opportunity. More ways to create spaces that genuinely work in real life.
